The residency is now closed and a successful candidate has been found.
This is an opportunity for a creative process driven artist to spend two weeks in the Artist's town of Kirkcudbright working in a Letterpress studio. You will be working alongside Fine Artist and Typographer Phil Robinson on experimental techniques and materials to introduce mixed media into Letterpress.
This will involve making materials such as paper and inks from scratch. Learning to use different presses (a book press, etching press, platen press and proofing press). Learning Typesetting and Typography techniques.
You will also be encouraged to link media and materials to meaning and interpretation throughout the residency.
Finally you will have opportunities to explore the vast array of art studios and galleries in Kirkcudbright and talk to many other professional artists in the town to gain inspiration.

ABOUT ME
My career started in reprographics, website design and application development. This background and a love of drawing, carving and history led me to wanting a physical space where I could create works using traditional printing methods.
I've moved away from my career now to pursue art full time and I was a finalist in the Scottish Portrait Awards in 2021 and the Refresh Art Awards in 2019. I have also worked as a professional comic book artist but am now looking to return to producing more meaningful, creative and expressive art.
My master's degree was in Museum and Art Gallery Studies and there is a sense of history and preservation in my studio. Nothing in the studio is electrical, everything is physical and manually operated. There is a tactile past to most things in the studio, they have led an active life already and wear the scars of years of service
I'm preparing a research project on using mixed media in the field of Letterpress to deliver meaning and interpretation in the works, creating a form of Fine Art Typography. I'm hoping that working with another artist and gaining feedback and input into the research will be valuable for both of us. You can view samples of my work on my main website;
